Tyson's new favorite toy

I suppose Dusty's creative juices had been stirring for awhile because about a month ago, he headed out to the back patio, pulled out all of his power tools, and make this rocking horse for Tyson. Talk about a sweet ride for a baby! He got the generic measurements off the internet and then added his own flavor to it. I really like it. It's pretty tall, but that means that Tyson will be able to ride it for a few years. We haven't stained it or added the hair and bridle yet, we'll do that in the summertime, but Tyson likes it the way it is. He is really starting to rock out on it, usually giving me a heart attack. But he hasn't launched off of it yet!

Just a side note. Tyson is so curious about everything that is happening outside. If he ever hears anything that is loud, usually a truck or piece of equipment, he runs to the nearest window to check it out. Must be a boy thing. :)

My pride is hurting a little.....

Sometimes when a major fad comes out I tend to avoid it. Whether I do this on principle or because of taste I cannot always say, but the latest one for me to notice is the Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus rage that is out there. How can you not help but notice? Her face is plastered on t-shirts and hoodies at all of the stores. All of my neighbors and friends with girls take them to her concerts. She has DVDs and CDs out of her concert performances. Not to mention a slightly watched television program. While I don't think there's anything bad about her or her success, I have mentioned to Dusty once or twice that I couldn't believe how BIG she is in America. Disney certainly has capitalized on the tween girl market with this Hannah Montana sensation. Now to the part that leaves me smarting a little bit.

I love to listen to the radio in the car. Me and Tyson dance it up quite a bit. Suddenly a newer song comes on and I simply love it. It has a great beat, it's in a minor key, it's perky, and I decide I will download it when I figure out who it is. I hear it again later that day. I love it!

At home on the internet I type in the lyrics that I figure must be the title and what do you know?

The song is See You Again, by Miley Cyrus. I am slightly horrified, but I get over it quickly. I really like the song and I laugh at myself for judging something (or someone) before I know anything about it. Later I find out that my sister, not that much younger than me, has one of her hoodies. Go figure.

I am still laughing about it and still loving the song. Download it, it's really fun.

Quantity vs. Quality

The age old question. Many answers to it. This is one question that has arisen loads of times in our 5 years of marriage, and we've discovered that even if you don't agree on anything under this issue you can still have a happy marriage. Let me discuss some examples. :)

Today I went shoe shopping for more work-out shoes. At first, only Sara was going to be my shopping buddy, but then at the last minute Dusty decided to come along with Tyson. Fine, fine. We get there and the first thing Dusty mentions is that I should check out the clearance rack first. Practical. Since I have very small feet, usually there are some there. Not this time. So I move on to the shoes on the wall. I like to look at the shape along with the colors. Dusty looks at the prices. Here is where we differ. I don't skimp on shoes. If it feels good, I will buy it. Dusty kept telling me to try on all of the cheapest shoes. In the end we compromised a little.

I like to wear comfy t-shirts around the house and to do yard-work. Most of the time I can find some good ones at DI or for $3.00 at the local Wal-Mart. If I find a shirt I really like, say at Target, I will buy two or three in different colors. (some of you may be cringing, as I know Dusty does). He cannot have any matching shirts, and would rather have some quality ones. This is probably good as I spill on almost anything.

For the most part, Dusty can handle the generic version of just about anything. He is pretty easy to please. But, I can't buy crappy makeup or hair products, sorry I just can't. I suppose I'll have to thank my Mom for that. And I have to have good sheets. After sleeping in super soft ones, the regular ones just don't cut it.

It's an interesting idea. After typing this up, I have decided that for the most part I'm a quality girl, and Dusty's a quantity boy. He's probably the smarter one.

This week

Monday has arrived and I usually make my list for the upcoming week. It is a pretty optimistic list and I never finish it, but it helps me get stuff done. The major item this week is to go through all of our files and organize. Take out needless papers, bind the 2007 stuff together, make new folders if we need them and just do a basic go-through. For Valentines, we decided to buy a larger fire-water-proof safe for some of our bigger things since our smaller one couldn't hold many papers. Hooooooww romantic, I know. I need to update our insurance and medical forms and make sure we have the things we need protected in the safe. I'm really taking this whole emergency preparedness to the next level and trying to do things each month. I guess February is the paper month.

I also want to finish some of the books I checked out of the library. I just finished the Lloyd Alexander High King Series, and I loved them. I can't believe I hadn't read them before now.

I plan on using quite a few recipes from the Lunch Ladies blog this week. There are always yummy ones there.

Over-all, it should be a pretty laid back week for us here. I am so glad that it's in the 50's so that we can go on walks outside.

Ummmmm.......

Dusty is busy changing Tyson in his bedroom, and suddenly I hear some little running feet and some bigger running feet and a loud "TA DA"!! This is what I discover. What's wrong with this picture? Nothing, if our baby is some kind of freaky baby super hero.

All I ask is "why?"

Dusty replies, "How do you know they weren't designed to go like this in the first place?"

I roll my eyes. And yes, Tyson wore them like this for the rest of the night.
