What I am loving right now.
- watching Dusty devour this book
- finding metal cars in low places, parked by tiny hands
- Tyson being excited about riding his "two-wheeler" so well
- boys coming inside with dirt on their faces from playing so hard
- cilantro/tomatillo dressing on everything I can think of
- eating lunch at the park with good friends
- Fresh lemon sugar body lotion
- cool evenings in the backyard with a book and ice-water
- Tyson learning how to read a clock (and getting letters about Kindergarten)
- Jack finally speaking out loud to us
- getting my mini travel albums put together
- my boys' spontaneous hugs and their giggling at night before falling into sleep
- Tyson's joy about his upcoming birthday
- my Aunt's generosity with her time/ spending lots of moments with us
- watching How the Universe Works with Dusty and having our minds blown during every episode
- the Hunt for Red October soundtrack
- mango jalapeno jam over cream cheese
- my Whole Living magazines
- movie night of Holes + caramel popcorn after Dusty and Tyson finished reading the book together

Europe: Day 19 Rome/Home
Today, we checked out of our hotel in Rome. We packed everything and sorted out our liquids for the flights. We wrapped up breakable things and packed our day bags with everything we thought we would need for the long trip home.
Our Eurail pass included passage on the Leonardo Express-- the shuttle from the train station that goes to the airport (Fiumicino). We caught it about 8:00. Our flight was leaving at 11:00 am, and we were allowing ourselves about three hours of leeway. The express took us about thirty minutes of travel time, not including the waiting time for it to depart. Then after arriving at the airport, we had to catch a small shuttle bus that took us to Terminal #5. ( we arrived about 9:00) Check in to our airline was quick, and the lines for security weren't too bad. We made it to our gate a little after 10:00, and got cozy on the floor next to the windows. There were masses of people waiting for the flights and not nearly enough seating. Our flight ended up leaving over 30 minutes late.
This plane wasn't nearly as nice as the one to London. There weren't as many movies to choose from and the screens were considerably smaller. We got lots of reading done and I finished my journal entry from the day before.
We connected in Washington DC Dulles Airport, where the security is considerably tighter and the customs line is long. Dusty's bag got searched because of the metal gladiator helmet souvenir he had carried on; the security guy says he sees them all of the time. :)
After making it to our gate, we charged all of our electronics, made phone calls to family members, and got some dinner. We were beginning to feel very sleepy. The five hour flight into Salt Lake was the longest of my life; and I have had some very long flights. We did our best to stay awake-- we read books and listened to music.
Finally we landed, and the shuttle for our hotel arrived taking us to our cozy bed. By 9:30 pm we were checked in, and soaking in the hot tub. The next morning my sweet sister picked us up in our car and took us to meet our little boys. The reunion was a happy one. Tyson was great; Jack was hesitant at first, but warmed up to us very quickly.
Looking back, I can't believe how smoothly this trip went for us. Everything seemed to fall into place. I am incredibly grateful to our parents for watching our boys for three whole weeks-- especially since Jack had never spent a night away from us (except in hospitals). I am also tremendously glad of the time we got to spend with Ben and Becky and their little family. They were so generous to us, made excellent travel companions, and I hope we get to do more traveling in the future with them. The boys seemed to suffer no traumatization from being gone from us, and were very glad to be home as well.
I am so glad we got to have this little European adventure together. There will be a lifetime of jokes and memories to share between us. Travel is always a good thing, especially when you are young and full of energy. Now on to planning our next trip. . . . .
