Quantity vs. Quality

The age old question. Many answers to it. This is one question that has arisen loads of times in our 5 years of marriage, and we've discovered that even if you don't agree on anything under this issue you can still have a happy marriage. Let me discuss some examples. :)

Today I went shoe shopping for more work-out shoes. At first, only Sara was going to be my shopping buddy, but then at the last minute Dusty decided to come along with Tyson. Fine, fine. We get there and the first thing Dusty mentions is that I should check out the clearance rack first. Practical. Since I have very small feet, usually there are some there. Not this time. So I move on to the shoes on the wall. I like to look at the shape along with the colors. Dusty looks at the prices. Here is where we differ. I don't skimp on shoes. If it feels good, I will buy it. Dusty kept telling me to try on all of the cheapest shoes. In the end we compromised a little.

I like to wear comfy t-shirts around the house and to do yard-work. Most of the time I can find some good ones at DI or for $3.00 at the local Wal-Mart. If I find a shirt I really like, say at Target, I will buy two or three in different colors. (some of you may be cringing, as I know Dusty does). He cannot have any matching shirts, and would rather have some quality ones. This is probably good as I spill on almost anything.

For the most part, Dusty can handle the generic version of just about anything. He is pretty easy to please. But, I can't buy crappy makeup or hair products, sorry I just can't. I suppose I'll have to thank my Mom for that. And I have to have good sheets. After sleeping in super soft ones, the regular ones just don't cut it.

It's an interesting idea. After typing this up, I have decided that for the most part I'm a quality girl, and Dusty's a quantity boy. He's probably the smarter one.

As long as we get along that's all that matters right?
I believe you have it good, my sister, he skimps so you can splurge!

Ooooh, good post. I think that people are different on quality vs quantity, depending on the product.

Maybe Dusty is more picky with things like house windows or cars or tools or something. There is probably something in which he out-qualities you.

Interestingly enough, I just purchased three of the same pair of pants today in different colors. I do it because I have found that if I actually find something that I like, I should stock up. This is because I have a hard time finding things that I like.

I too go for many if it's something good. Why the heck not? We've found (and I think agreed) that somewhere in the middle...learning towards quality but not to the point of ridiculous....is good. Because the quality extends the life of it, keeping it out of the trash. All for trying generic stuff, but if it's junky they're not going to get me back to save a few bucks.

Heehee...I agree with what Lindsey said! I can have some things generic or cheap- but others, like shampoo and conditioner- top of the line baby!!

I learned quickly while training for my first marathon that the QUALITY of the shoe is SO IMPORTANT! If you don't have the right shoe for your foot type and running style you can be in loads of trouble (and pain!). I say never skimp on the running shoes!

...though in most other ways Paul and I are super cheap. I am the girl that will buy the cheapest brand of shampoo. You know the one that costs $0.89 :-D

I have always been a quantity girl and Chris has always been a quality guy. But since we got married Chris has been teaching me the value of buying quality. Wait, I lied, I did learn to buy quality clothes when I got to college, but that's about it. Why spend $20 on a pair of jeans that look okay for about a week and then you hate them for months, when you can get a great pair for $50 that look great for months! I'm learning to apply that in many different areas. :) And, I can't ever go to a $5 haircut place again. It's worth it to get it done well and to put some money into your looks so you feel great!

Sorry Camille, didn't mean to be confusing. Ethan isn't ours, he's Whit and Tiff's, and he sure is cute. We would keep him around if we could.

Oh man, I'm sorry. I guess I should have been able to figure that one out, sorry. Well tell the Tiffany Ethan is adorable as well ;)
